My own David One -
Just a line to ship in Winnie note - I doubt if any thing posted later than today will reach you at Cambridge this week, so as Gillian still sleeps & Anna is absorbed in her orange I'll write to you -
Hope you got some sleep even in a strange bed and that your toothache is better. Do hope that if - as I think likely it is due to your cold it will spread no further. I believe I've cheered mine - at any rate I feel better in myself and it seems to be dying up instead of spread. Up the autumn cle -
I went past Holtty and over the dam to fetch the children as the wind was much less yesterday. I found Mrs H in the garden who took the little Charm plus and I thought understood by - She is charming - but rather an incapable little feminine I should imagine - She tells me her baby has been down with throat glands etc for weeks. Well, I didn't tell her how weeks ago
I saw her silly nurse all on the baby, & get wet & the wind while he "paddled" (!!) for - well nearer 3/4 hr than 1/2 hr. It was a warm day in May - I only led Anna paddle - and wondered at the Holtty child's strength - but she evidently could not stand it. I'm better in health now that I can throw it off - or else it is the Dettol gargle I'm using on the tablets - I didn't use Dettol last time Tom did I wonder if that was why she never got very bad -
Well, after a chat with Mrs H I went on for the children - who had by then nearly gone - I comforted them with the brooches - Gillian loves your College one with its 6 little lines & 6 fleur de lis -
In the afternoon while children had tea - strawberries, Anna came in & joined them - and quite of her own accord marched to the sink & washed up - Gillian infed - When we had finished she came & me & said "Have I left every thing as you like it?" Gillian was so impressed - then we arrived awshun with spade & a rake & went to search for the ball. We searched a strip about 10 ft. by 6 ft. by 1 ft. deep - they had a glorious time there, tho but found no ball - Anna is a nice child & quite an asset. She is staying in year at least.
Today Mrs H does not come. It is nearly 7 a.m so I'd better close - I'll have a letter at Cambridge for you by hand - 7.15 a.m - must get up -
Oh my darling one - I do hope your cold will heal up soon ready for the next thing - don't have you up till it is well please -
No word of Chin last night -
All my love -
Ada -
